Situation:
Shangri-La Corporation is a non-profit corporation, which provides homes, jobs and support services to individuals with developmental disabilities and economic disadvantages. The company was established in 1963 by the parents of mentally and/or developmentally disabled children. Initially, it focused on a residential program. Today, it is a broad-based business organization that employs 420 individuals total with 120 who have disabilities. As part of its ongoing vision, Shangri-La Corporation wanted to purchase one of the properties they had been leasing.
Solution:
Mid Willamette Valley Council of Governments and CRF worked together to loan Shangri-La Corporation $1.56 million, enabling them to purchase the property they had been leasing and stabilize its occupancy costs.
Benefits:
Today, Shangri-La delivers services in over 80 locations and operates 6 subsidiary businesses. Service sites include individual apartments, family homes, small classrooms, commercial businesses and community learning centers.
